palindrome in ruby

simple method to check whether given string is palindrome. method will return true if the given string is palindrome or return false

 def palindrome?(string)  
   str=string.downcase;  
   str=str.gsub(/[^a-z]/,'');  
   return str.eql? str.reverse;  
 end
